Can Your Hair “Get Used” to Shampoo, Hair Products, etc.?

Surprisingly enough, this is actually a very common question. The truth of the matter, though, is that hair is dead. So, just as your fingernails wouldn’t “get used” to any certain kind nailpolish, your hair won’t “get used” to any of the products you put in it either.

The main reason that some stylist recommend changing shampoos every so often is because of the amount of products many modern women use to style their hair. Gels, hairsprays, pomades, etc., will over time leave a build up on the hair shaft. So instead of changing out your shampoos every so often, stylists recommend using a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove all of the product build up. Technically, we suppose, this could be considered “changing up” your product, but stylists agree: if you’ve found a shampoo or conditioner that you absolutely love, there’s no reason not to stick with it for forever if you like, as long as you are using a separate clarifying shampoo once a week to strip the product build up from the hair.
