What is the Pus Inside of a Pimple?

Yuck! Not only do we wonder why we get pustules (pimples) but what they heck is that stuff inside? Whenever pus is present, it’s best not to touch it, or pop it, because it is a small local infection, and the last thing you want to do is spread an infection around your face. That’s something to think about next time you’re standing at the mirror squeezing and picking at your face.

When pus is present, this generally means the area is inflamed or infected. Pus is formed from dead blood cells and bacteria with tissue debris and serum. Pus is formed as a result of our body trying to fight off an infection. The pores in our skin are connected to oil glands that are located under the hair follicle. Pustules become present when the hair follicles get blocked, resulting in accumulation of oil under the skin.

Exfoliation is very important to do in your skin care regimen. Exfoliation will break down any skin sitting on the skins surface that is at risk to cause blockage. If there are not dead cells and debris on the surface, this will dramatically reduce the risk for breakouts.

  1. WOW, thanks! I always have pimples on my chin area and can’t resist popping them. It makes them feel better for one, but then it scabs up and I deal with picking at them. I am going to resist temptation from here on out.
