Foundation Makeup 101: Mineral Powder Foundation

Mineral powder foundations are sheer and, as the name would suggest, mineral based. This type of foundation makeup provides medium coverage. Because of this, using this type may require a moisturizer and a primer. When the skin is dry and flaky, the makeup tends to fill in the cracks of the skin. Mineral powder foundation is ideal for combination skin. It helps the skin to stay shine free without covering the natural beauty of the natural skin. Many people with acne prone skin do not choose mineral powder as their only foundation. Powders can be used over liquid foundation to control shine. However, mineral makeup does not have enough coverage to cover acne and dark spots.

When choosing a mineral makeup, avoid products with talc, silicone, and paraben preservatives in the label. These tend to be products with chemicals in their formulas.

When applying mineral makeup, a powder brush or kubki brush is used. For those that prefer utilizing beauty blender sponges,  the powder is dabbed onto the skin with the sponge. The Pink Teardrop and The Purple Pear sponges are ideal for this since they have a large base for easy application.
