How To Tame Frizzy Hair?

How is it possible that straight hair manages to get frizzy? At home products, styling tools and the weather may all contribute to frizzy hair. Frizzy hair can happen to everyone.

Generally when the hair has “frizz” it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dry, in most cases it means it’s damaged. Granted “frizz” can happen with static (from being dry,) but damage is the main cause. Beach spray hair products, extra hold hairsprays and gels are all products that eventually cause frizz. These products are very harsh to the cuticle of the hair which is the outer most layer and causes the shingle like texture to raise up, so instead of the cuticle laying flat, it is flaired out like a christmas tree. When the cuticle expands, it causes frizz. Hot styling tools can do the same thing as well. When heat is applied to the hair day after day, the hair becomes very fragile and breaks. Instead of using a curling iron, flat iron and blow dryer, try to pick just one to give your hair a break. Humidity is another huge problem with hair. Sometimes it seems as if you walk outside for three seconds and your hair is as big as a poodles fur. Well, at least there is some good news if you have hair like that. The beauty industry has made it very easy for product junkees to find products for all their needs. Luckily there are many lightweight oils, hairsprays and “weather-proof” sprays on the market. These oils and sprays put a light coating of protectant over the cuticle, allowing it to sit flat and look sleek all day.

Dealing with frizzy hair can be frustrating but there is a way to tame it! Avoid harsh products, cut back on the heat and add some protection and moisture to ease the frizz.

  1. I will be definitely be looking into that “weather-proof” spray for those humid days or for my next trip to Florida.
