The Relationship Between Diet and Skin Health

Nutrition is key to having healthy skin. Nutrition not only contains a proper diet, but taking preventative measures to develop healthy habits. Wearing protective clothing, hats, and sunscreen are the first steps to create healthy looking skin. This is the best protection for the skin. A proper diet is essential to maintain healthy skin. Also, taking vitamins, keeping up with water intake and incorporating regular exercise are all healthy practices to our health and complexion. Positive thinking can also prevent stress and can decrease premature aging.

Healthy skin begins with diet and water intake. Proper diet choices regulate hydration, oil production, and overall cell function. A poor balanced diet can result in fatigue, stress and depression. Nutritional needs also depend on the type of person. Age, sex, weight, and body type are various factors to determine these needs.

The average water intake per person depends on physical activity and weight of the person. Take your weight and divide it by two, this will calculate how many eight ounce glasses of water the body needs a day to function properly and stay hydrated. The more physical activity, the more water the body needs. Keeping caffeinated beverages at a minimum is also necessary when regulating hydration. Three eight ounce glasses of water are depleted per eight ounce caffeinated beverage that is consumed.

Keeping the body and skin hydrated is essential in skin health and proper nutrition. The body and skin both rely heavily on water. Water composes to 50 to 70 percent of the body’s weight. Pure water keeps the body healthy; it sustains cell health, aids in elimination of toxins and waste, regulates body function, and aids in proper digestion. When all of the body’s functions are working properly, the skin stays healthy, vital, and attractive.
